Rachel Carrillo M.Ed. - Center Director
I came to this program as a student looking for an on-campus job while I finished my BA in psychology. It was here that I fell in love with early childhood education. I started as a classroom assistant, moved to teacher of the Green Room and eventually became the Assistant Director. I was recently promoted to Director where I have enjoyed each day being able to serve our university families. The mission of this program is dear to my heart and I'm so proud that I get to be a part of it. I received my Master's in Early Childhood Education from Arizona State University. Recently becoming a parent myself has taught me a lot about the importance of building trust between families and their child care program and I work to incorporate that into our center each day. My husband and I have lived in Salt Lake City for 6 years and love going to new restaurants, shopping at local farmers markets, and attending concerts. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
Kaia Ortega B.A. - Assistant Center Director
I was first a part of the UKids - Presidents Circle team as a teacher in the Yellow Room in May 2016 after working for University Health for 2 years. I graduated from the U in 2014 with a BS in Human Development and Family Studies, with a minor in psychology and an emphasis in child life theory ( similar to play therapy). I recently became Assistant Director and I have enjoyed working more closely with families and staff to create the best environment possible for these precious kiddos. My husband and I have lived in South Jordan for 3 years while my husband finishes his mechanical engineering degree here at the U. We had a beautiful baby girl in January 2017 and are learning so much from her. As a student family myself, I am very aware of the needs of other student families and I am so glad I get the opportunity to be an advocate for this demographic on campus. When my family is not on campus, we are taking adventures to the park with our dog, trying new recipes, and watching movies.
Amberli Falk, B.S., Curriculum Specialist
I joined the UKids- President’s Circle team in March of 2015, starting out as the Two’s Lead Teacher in the Green Room. I love that age group and the exciting developmental stages two year-olds go through. Next, I had the privilege to work as the Preschool Specialist and Lead Teacher in the Red Room. This was a wonderful experience, where I specifically focused on teaching children important social-emotional skills that they will need to be ready for and successful in school (and life!) I then spent some time working as a Child Development Specialist for Head Start, where I was able to support teachers to ensure they had high quality classrooms to support all children’s individual development and learning. I was certified as a reliable CLASS assessor (an observation tool to assess classroom quality in preschool classrooms), and had experience screening children for developmental delays or concerns. I now work as the Curriculum Specialist and Coach for the UKids- Child Care Programs on campus and I truly enjoy it! I get the opportunity to work with our wonderful staff to provide training, coaching, and support to them in their work with young children. I am passionate about Early Childhood Education and love the work I do! In my spare time, I teach ballet lessons, listen to music, and love traveling to new places with my family!
